Class and Division Basics

• Class I: Locations where flammable gases or vapors may be present.
• Class II: Locations where combustible dust may create a hazard.
• Class III: Locations involving ignitable fibers or flyings.
• Division 1 vs. Division 2: The required division depends on how and when the hazardous material can be present.

Classification alone is not enough. Confirm the required Group, temperature code, ambient-temperature range, environmental rating, voltage and mounting method for the exact project.
